The first step in this addition was to remove the screen porch on the side
and rear to make way for the new square footage.
The original house was in good condition. The plans called for removing
some of the old wooden windows and reusing them in the new living room so
that the front elevation would look original.
The photo above shows the new square footage to the left of the original
residence. The front entry moved to the left as part of the new space. We
used siding to match the original to minimize work to the existing house.
Several exterior walls were retrofitted with insulation for energy efficiency.

This photo shows the details of the front, which now incorporate natural cedar
shakes, a metal roof, and a real oak wood door. The windows to the left of
the front entry were removed from the old side of the house and reinstalled
in the new living room. By keeping the old windows we spared the old ones
from the dumpster and kept that old house vintage look across the entire
front elevation.
The rear of the ridence received a new screen enclosure to take advantage
of the great back yard.. The rear elevation also got new double pane insulated
windows & one new insulated exterior door.
